Maborosi / 1995 / Japanese

FiC Rating: 4/5
Dir: Hirokazu Koreeda

Why FiC recommends?
1) This Koreeda’s debut is an ode to Yasujiro Ozu, it’s all about memories, missing, filling the void and unanswered questions.
2) Maborosi visualizes the sorrow and melancholy of the characters along with the surrounding they live in, visual parallels of changing seasons with the character’s emotional ride is noteworthy.
3) Koreeda’s slumber narrative of the tale resonates with the character’s misery which is also well played by Makiko Esumi.
