Kasaba/1997/Turkey

FiC Rating 3.5/5
Dir: Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Why FiC Recommends?
1) While many of the auteurs look back and ruminate on his past for inspiration, It’s rare for a debutant filmmaker to rummage through his fleeting memories of childhood and brining it with innocence, nostalgia and existential malaise.
2) Kasaba oozes a certain flamboyance out of it’s scintillating b/w photography and immersive score. It unfolds in the pace of life itself gradually absorbing inside your soul as soon as the moments start getting imprisoned inside Ceylan’s hypnotic frames.
3) It moves one effortlessly with it’s serenity and perceives time from a child’s point of view and celebrates the curious and ardent explorer in them.
